Tickle Wiggle, Mingle Giggle, Whistle Jingle!

Children need plenty of opportunities for creative play and creative thinking. Keeping in mind students’ interest, students of standard 8th were given an opportunity to express their ideas and interest through Jingle making activity.

Children were peered up in groups and were asked to compose Jingles. They were given ample of examples on how to compose an effective jingle. A step wise approach was taught to them on how to compose an appealing jingle. It was a 5 step approach:
  1. The children were asked to choose a product for example Nike, Colgate, Cadbury, KitKat etc.
  2. Then children were asked to describe the products characteristics, features, appearances and benefits for end user.
  3. The next task was challenging, intimidating but interesting. They were asked to write single words which would describe the above mentioned points and write rhyming words for the same.
  4. Next task was to write the lyrics with the help of single words and rhyming words obtained from step 3 and step 4.
  5. Last step was to come up with a small act and tune of the lyrics that they had written.
The outcome of this activity was really praiseworthy. Children came out of their comfort zone and set higher bars of writing lyrics, acting and composing the tune. The children themselves gave a big round of applause to all the performing teams after their performances. This shows that children not only praise the best, but have also learnt to give credit to efforts and creativity of others. Indeed the expression and creativity of all the children were at their best through this activity. This activity not only brought joy to the students but also helped them to grow in confidence, express themselves in gorups and accept and share ideas with each other.

Creativity is the freest form of self expression. There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling for children than to be able to express themselves openly and without judgment.
